02:58A Very Interesting Analysis of Pope Francis’ Personality.
A Very Interesting Analysis of Pope Francis’ Personality
Sandro Magister published interesting remarks of an unnamed Italian reader which went largely unobserved. The reader points out that in his recent autobiographical remarks when talking in February to Roman diocesan priests, Francis described the period in which he was a superior as an “age of omnipotence”. The reader comments, “This reveals an affective approach to power that turns out to be problematic, to say the least.” On the contrary, the periods of his life that Francis calls “dark” are in practice those in which he had no position of power.
“Surface Charisma Proper to Unstable Personalities”
Another unnamed reader wrote to Magister that Bergoglio must be deciphered from a psychological rather than a theological point of view. Quote, “I am convinced that part of his secret lies in his family of origin, of which, on balance, we know very little and about which he himself …
You are talking here about our supreme pontiff. His proper name is Pope Francis. To refer to him otherwise is not giving the Chair of Peter the respect we must give. Even the office of a 'bad pope' must be given this respect to show our own modesty before God.

The World Loves Amoris Laetitia: Dallas Bishop Kevin Farrell, the prefect of the newly created Congregation for Laity, Family and Life, made it clear to Vatican Radio that pushing the controversial document Amoris Laetitia will be his number one agenda. Farrell called Amoris Laetitia – quote - "so important and so well-received by the whole world."
Incompetent Radio Vatican: Bishop Kevin Farrell was ordained a priest in 1978 when he was a Legionary of Christ. But already in 1984 he left the order, becoming a diocesan priest of the Archdiocese of Washington. After 32 years, Italian-speaking Radio Vatican still calls him a Legionary of Christ.
Paying Homage: After the General Audience on August 31st pope Francis will visit the Fiera di Roma, a showground outside of the city, to pay homage to the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology. Thirty-five thousand physicians from 144 nations participate in the Congress. In January, in the center of …

No and Yes: As it has become common practice, another Vatican report – the one on Medjugorie - has been leaked in order to prepare the public for its findings. According to the Italian media Pope Francis will not recognize the apparitions of Medjugorie as supernatural. At the same time Medjugorie will be recognized as a place of worship.
Polemics: Along the same lines Pope Francis politicized during yesterday’s homily indirectly against Medjugorie. He warned of ways in which Christian witness can be weakened or watered down. Among different examples Francis also mentioned those who are always searching for some “novelty” in their Christian identity. They say “Where are the visionaries who can tell us exactly what message Our Lady will be sending at 4’o’clock this afternoon?” The Italian journalist Antonio Socci comments: “From a father one would expect another way of expressing himself”.

No Confession No Mercy: Addressing the participants of a course organized by the Apostolic Penitentiary, Pope Francis said that confession shows God’s mercy in a particular way. Quote: “Only, what is kept away from divine mercy can not be forgiven, as what escapes from the sun, cannot be lighted or heated.”
Poor Memory: Radio Vatican asked Vatican Speaker Father Federico Lombardi about what he specially remembers about the first two years of the Pontificate of Pope Francis. Lombardi mentioned three things: some hugging in front of the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, the blessing Francis asked from the visibly embarrassed Patriarch of Constantinople and, finally, the many people in the Philippines who wanted to see the Pope. Gloria.tv regrets that Lombardi did not remember a single instance of a specifically Catholic event.

Re "Poor Memory":
One thought niggling on my mind since the pope's popularity is John 15:18-19:
"18"If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19"If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.…"
I find it a little worri1some when our Pope is (almost?) never hated by the world ... or so it would seem some times.

The Central Dogma Is the Eucharist Not the Papacy
Italy. If you meddle with the Holy Mass, the papacy will collapse. This is the gist of an editorial for RAH di cant tee “Radicati nella Fede” which was translated by “Rorate Caeli”. The text warns of focusing too strongly on the pope. In order to save Catholic life it is needed to start not from the pope but from the Holy Mass. According to the text, if faith diminishes, everything in the Church will collapse including the papacy.

Priests Don't Like the New Translation
France
Inside the cathedral Notre Dame de Paris, the award-winning French historian, journalist and essayist, 78 year-old Dominique Venner committed suicide on Tuesday by a gunshot to the mouth. In his early life, Venner was active in the French nationalist movement but from 1971 he ceased all political activities in order to focus on his career as a historian. Venner had a critical view of the Church and showed a tendency toward paganism. In his final blog posting, also published on Tuesday, Venner claimed: “We must remember according to the ingenious phrase of Heidegger (in Being and Time) that the essence of man is in his existence and not in some «other world».

Vatican
On Friday, during their eighth congregation, the Cardinals discussed topics such as Interreligious dialogue particularly with Islam, the challenges of bioethics, the – quote - "joyous announcement of God's love and mercy" or a Church that is close to where people live. On the occasion of the Socialist Women’s Day on March 8th they spoke about the role of women in the Church. The Cardinals also talked about the importance of the laity in the new evangelization, the importance of Justice and the fight against poverty. Nevertheless, the hope remains that the new pope will tackle the true problems of the Church which are making Faith of primary importance, teaching the Catholic Faith in Theological Faculties, reforming Seminaries and, most important, naming more orthodox bishops.

A New Hermit in America
USA
Father George David Byers has begun his life as a hermit. Bishop Peter Joseph Jugis of Charlotte, North Carolina, has granted him permission to be a hermit on one of the ridges of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Fr Byers is a biblical scholar and a longtime friend of Fr. Reto Nay from Gloria.TV. I myself had a lovely meeting with him some years ago in Lourdes. Now, Fr Byers has dedicated his life to the sanctification of his fellow bishops and priests in the purgatory of this life and the next. He runs his own website called holysoulshermitage.wordpress.com. There is an important benefactors page. Among other things, Father asks for mass stipends – or a chain saw. This last bit is for Fr Byers: Yes, I am able to see and read the Hebrew quotation on your website perfectly.
